Mailorder information

Terms and conditions

Payment may be made by credit/debit card, by cheque or by postal orders. If an ordinary cheque or postal orders are used, and no substitutes are listed, we will complete the order with substitutes of our choice, up to the value of the cheque. A “limit cheque” allows us to fill in the actual amount so no substitutes need to be sent. Do phone and ask if you need help in filling out a limit cheque.

We will send out plants at any time but would suggest that spring and autumn are the best times for plants to travel. We will not send plants when we consider that it is too hot or cold. If specifically asked to send at these times, the purchaser must take responsibility for the plants and we ask for this in writing. When plants are sent out in the summer, we may have to cut them down to fit them in the box. Where possible, we leave stems and flowers, even if bent, so you can see what they look like but advise that you cut the damaged stems off before planting.

To keep mail order costs down and to do our bit for recycling, we re-use boxes, mostly supplied by our local village shop, as we feel that charging for new boxes would make mail order prices prohibitive and is quite unnecessary. (Sorry if you think you have been sent a box of wine or chocolate biscuits, only to find out the contents do not match the picture on the outside of the box!)

Any complaints must be made in writing within 7 days of the receipt of the goods. The distance selling law states that purchasers have 7 days after receipt of goods, to change their mind and cancel the order, in writing. In this case, the purchaser will be responsible for the costs of returning the goods and for any losses, as plants are regarded as perishables.

We do not have a secure site for taking credit cards on the internet as many people are unsure of its security and as our stock levels are constantly changing,   we will ring you back and get your card details by phone, before sending out your plants. It’s a bonus for us to speak to our customers and is useful if we have sold out of something. We do not cash cheques or process credit cards until parcels are dispatched.

We use a “next day delivery courier” to send all our parcels to provide next day delivery so the plants are as fresh as possible. However, we cannot guarantee this as once the parcel has left the nursery, its delivery is out of our control.  Having said this, 99% of the parcels we send do arrive the next day.

If you are having a small parcel, we can use 1st class post but cannot be responsible for any holdups etc. that are caused by not using a next day service. We may charge more than the postage shown on the label as we have to drive 2 miles to get to the closest Post Office. Please phone your order so we can quote your postage cost.
